In brief

This website sets no cookies, uses no analytics or tracking tools and loads no content or scripts from third parties. Fonts and images are served exclusively from this domain. Personal data is processed only as far as necessary for technically delivering the site, or when you send me an email.

Hosting and delivery

The website is delivered via Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). When you visit, Cloudflare processes technically necessary data, in particular your IP address, date and time of access, the address requested and browser and device information, in order to deliver the site and protect it against attacks. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; the legitimate interest lies in the secure and stable provision of the website.

This may involve a transfer to the USA. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, for which an adequacy decision of the European Commission exists. I do not analyse or store this data myself.

Contact by email

The contact function merely opens your own email program; nothing is sent or stored through the website itself. If you write to me, I process your details to answer your enquiry. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, and for enquiries about cooperation also point (b). Your message is deleted once it has been dealt with and no retention obligations apply.

The mailbox is provided by Duke University. Email is therefore received via its systems, which may involve a transfer to the USA.

Storage in the browser

The website stores no data on your device, not even whether you have closed the notice banner. Search runs entirely in your browser.

Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). Please contact the email address above.

You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR), for example the Independent Data Protection Centre Saarland (Unabhängiges Datenschutzzentrum Saarland) or the authority where you live.
